How to Reset a Find My Tracker That Won't Pair
Press the button 5 times rapidly, hold the 5th press until you hear a chime, then re-pair through the Find My app. That fixes 90% of pairing problems. If it does not, this guide covers every other cause and fix.
How do I reset a Find My compatible Bluetooth tracker?
Quick Reset — 5 Steps
- Remove from Find My first. Open Find My → Items → select the tracker → scroll down → Remove Item. Skip this if the tracker was never paired.
- Press the button 5 times rapidly. Hold the 5th press for 3-5 seconds until you hear a chime or see the LED flash twice. This clears the internal pairing state.
- Check the battery. Open the back cover and inspect the CR2032. If the tracker did not chime during reset, the battery is likely dead. Replace it — positive (+) side up.
- Re-pair in Find My. Open Find My → Items → tap + → Add Other Supported Item. Hold the tracker within 5 cm of your iPhone and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Test it. Tap Play Sound in the Find My app. If you hear a 90-95 dB ring, you are connected.
If the tracker still does not appear, work through the causes below.
Why won't my tracker show up in Find My?
Five common causes, in order of likelihood:
1. Bluetooth is off on your iPhone
Open Settings → Bluetooth and make sure it is turned on. Also check that you did not disable Bluetooth from Control Center — swiping down and tapping the Bluetooth icon only disconnects accessories, it does not fully turn Bluetooth off. Go to Settings to confirm.
2. The tracker battery is dead
A dead CR2032 battery is the most common hardware cause. The HB02 battery lasts 8-10 months under normal use. If you bought the tracker more than 6 months ago and have not replaced the battery, try a fresh one first. CR2032 batteries cost $3-5 at any pharmacy or convenience store.
3. The tracker is still paired to another Apple ID
Apple's activation lock prevents a tracker from being paired to two accounts simultaneously. If you bought a used or gifted tracker, the previous owner must remove it from their Find My account first. They can do this remotely at iCloud.com → Find My → Items → select the tracker → Remove.
4. Find My is not enabled on your iPhone
Go to Settings → [your name] → Find My → Find My iPhone and make sure it is turned on. Also check that "Find My network" is enabled — this is the setting that allows your phone to detect third-party trackers.
5. Your iPhone software is outdated
Third-party Find My trackers require iOS 14.5 or later. Go to Settings → General → Software Update and install any available updates. As of 2026, most iPhones run iOS 18+, but if you are on an older device, check this first.
What if the tracker pairs but shows "No Location Found"?
This is normal immediately after pairing. The tracker does not have GPS — it relies on nearby Apple devices in the Find My network to detect its Bluetooth signal and report its location. If you are in a room alone with no other Apple devices nearby, there is nothing to relay the tracker's position.
To test: bring the tracker to a busy area — a coffee shop, office, or shopping mall — and wait 15-30 minutes. The location will appear once another iPhone or iPad passes within Bluetooth range (approximately 10-30 meters).
How do I remove a tracker so someone else can use it?
Open Find My → Items → select the tracker → Remove Item. The tracker is immediately unpaired and ready for the next person to set up. If you no longer have the tracker physically nearby, you can do this remotely at iCloud.com.
Always remove a tracker before selling, gifting, or returning it. If you do not, the next owner will not be able to pair it — Apple's activation lock will block them.

How do I reset a Find My compatible Bluetooth tracker?
Press the button on the tracker 5 times rapidly, holding the 5th press for 3-5 seconds until you hear a chime or see the LED flash. This clears the previous pairing. Then open the Find My app on your iPhone, go to Items, tap +, and select Add Other Supported Item to pair again.
Why won't my Bluetooth tracker show up in Find My?
The most common causes are: Bluetooth is turned off on your iPhone, the tracker battery is dead, the tracker is still paired to another Apple ID, or Find My is not enabled in your iCloud settings. Check each of these before attempting a reset.
Can I pair a tracker that was previously paired to someone else?
Only if the previous owner removed the tracker from their Find My account first. Apple's activation lock prevents a tracker paired to one Apple ID from being added to another. If you bought a used tracker, ask the seller to remove it from their account remotely via iCloud.com.
My tracker pairs but shows "No Location Found" — what does that mean?
This means the tracker paired successfully but no Apple device in the Find My network has detected it yet. Move to an area with more people carrying iPhones (a mall, office, or busy street) and wait 15-30 minutes. The location will update once another Apple device passes nearby.
How do I remove a tracker from my Apple ID?
Open the Find My app, go to Items, select the tracker, scroll down, and tap Remove Item. Confirm the removal. The tracker is now unpaired and ready for the next person to set up. You can also do this remotely via iCloud.com if you no longer have the tracker nearby.
